About Deborah

Welcome!  What would you like to know about me?  I could use this page to share my artist statement and/or my official bio.  But since you can access all of that from my website (www.deborahgall.com), I will use this page to share a little more of who I am rather and what this blog is all about rather than what I have done.

I come from a family of teachers.  I have a teacher’s heart.  What that means is that it gives me great pleasure to educate others:  about how to paint, about the business of art, and about the art industry in general.  I have found through the years that many potential customers shy away from making an art purchase because they do not trust themselves to make the right decision.  Fear seems to stand in their way.

My goal for this blog is to share insights into the art biz that hopefully will demystify the industry and break down that fear barrier.  I am not after  classroom teaching, but the down (and sometimes dirty) to earth truth of viewing, engaging, purchasing, and ultimately enjoying art.

I am a painter.  I am a contemporary painter.  I am a contemporary art painter who uses palette knives and whose style ranges from impressionistic landscapes to non-objective abstracts.  This I know well and will undoubtedly draw from my own day to day experience to share the truth beneath the myth.  However I will also share other styles and stories shared along the way with my colleagues and friends in the art biz.

Abide Studio is located in the historic Factory at Franklin in Franklin, TN.  It is open to the public whenever I am here.  When I am in town, I am usually in the studio Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.  Tuesdays and Thursdays will often find me at the studio as well, but they are my swing days to do business away from the studio.  However, I travel the art show circuit and any given weekend could find me anywhere from Florida to Colorado.  My schedule is always posted on my website in case you’d want to check.

My hope is that you will enjoy this journey in the art biz right along side of me.  I have found the journey to be an ever changing adventure of the heart and spirit.  Together we’ll see what’s around the next bend.  Enjoy!
